John L. Verna CBA, CPA, CFE
John is both an executive with Smithbridge as well as the founder and CEO of Navigator Associates. John has over 25 years of diversified experience in both executive roles with P&L responsibility as well as an advisor on strategic development, leadership restructuring, executive recruiting and confidential corporate integrity issues.
In leadership restructuring and executive recruiting, John has extensive experience in assessing organizational structure & effectiveness, restructuring executive management teams and recruiting executive talent. Working with Smithbridge since 2006, John has lead numerous efforts to identify and recruit C-Level and second level executives in a wide range of industries for both public and private corporations. John has also lead many confidential inquiries into executive candidate backgrounds as well as working to resolve integrity issues involving current leadership.
In the strategic development arena, John has extensive mergers & acquisitions experience in the private company sell-side investment banking practice of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and then subsequently on the M&A buy-side as chief development officer of Kroll Inc and later Citigate Global Intelligence Inc. where he had extensive experience in organizational restructuring and executive recruiting. John has a depth of hands-on M&A experience including pre-transaction consulting, buyer/target search, executive assessment, deal negotiation, structuring, valuation and closing of deals for privately owned companies and business lines as well as units of publicly owned companies.
Since 2006, John has been the CEO and Executive Managing Director of Navigator Associates, specializing in providing strategic development, M&A, investigations, controls and monitoring services to Fortune 1000 corporations as well as a Partner with Global Audit LLC, a special purpose forensic auditing firm concentrating on international issues.
John has worked with many clients to manage both domestic and international investigative crises, evaluate breakdowns in internal controls as well as resolving related business disputes.
From 2001 until 2005, John was a senior executive with Global Intelligence, an investigative and controls monitoring firm, which was acquired by Incepta/Citigate PLC in 2002. As Executive Managing Director of Citigate Global Intelligence and Chairman of the governing Executive Committee.
At Kroll Associates from 1992 through 2001, John was a Senior Managing Director where he held a number of executive positions in the Firmís Corporate Investigations & Intelligence Practice and led the Total Business Controls Practice. From 1996 until 1998, John was Krollís Chief Strategic Development Officer, creating the Firmís long term growth plan as well as positioning and executing a number of acquisitions.
Before joining Kroll in 1992, John was a Senior Manager with the Financial Advisory Services of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he had responsibility for the start-up and operation of the Atlantic Region M&A Sell-Side Practice. He was also a Senior Consultant with the Firmís Strategic Management Services Group engaged in business turnaround, organizational strategy development and competitor intelligence.
Prior to his Firm sponsored graduate school work at Cornell University, John had been a Manager with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in both the Computer and Financial Auditing Groups as well as working in the Firmís Business Investigations (& Bankruptcy) Practice.
John was an adjunct professor at Widener Universityís Graduate School of Business, where he lectured on litigation consulting and M&A strategy.
In 2013, John, along with several colleagues, founded the Center for Strategic Business Integrity, a research and certification organization dedicated to developing independent, effective corporate directorship oversight skills.
With his wife, Lyn, an eye care professional, he has directly provided support to many special needs children to help improve their vision.
